From mastering crucial driving skills to understanding the testing requirements of the G2 road test is a significant milestone on the journey to obtaining your driver's license. As you progress through the G1, the G2 road test becomes a pivotal milestone, bringing you one step closer to full driving independence. Whether you are a novice driver eager to hit the road or someone returning to the driver's seat after a hiatus, the preparation for the G2 road test is crucial. In this blog post, we will provide you with useful tips and advice to help you prepare for the G2 road test and obtain your driver's license.

What is the G2 Road Test?

The G2 road test, also called the G1 exit test, typically spans approximately 15 minutes. This evaluation assesses proficiency in city driving, residential navigation, and various driving manoeuvres, including three-way turns and parking.

Possession of a G1 license permits individuals to engage in driving practice under the supervision of a fully licensed driver. In contrast, a G2 license grants drivers the autonomy to operate a vehicle independently, without any time-of-day restrictions, and on any road within the province of Ontario, albeit subject to specific limitations.

When is the Eligibility to Book My G1 Exit Test or G2 Road Test?

In Ontario, the eligibility to schedule your G1 exit test or G2 road test is contingent on holding the G1 license for a minimum duration of 12 months. However, if you undergo a driver education course, this waiting period can be reduced to eight months. It is essential to be aware of various driving restrictions applicable to G1 drivers which are as follows:

1. Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited, and a zero blood alcohol level is mandatory.

2. G1 drivers are not allowed to drive alone. An accompanying driver must occupy the front passenger seat, possessing a valid Class G (or higher) license, a minimum of four years of driving experience, and a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level below 0.05% when accompanying the G1 driver.

3. All individuals in the vehicle must wear functioning seatbelts.

4. G1 drivers are restricted from driving on 400-series highways or high-speed roads with a posted speed limit exceeding 80 km/h unless accompanied by a certified driving instructor.

5. Between midnight and 5 a.m. driving is not permitted for G1 drivers. These regulations are crucial to observe during the G1 license period.
